Heartland MX Championship Series: The 6-State Circuit Explained

MWR Staff·

If you are looking for the most competitive regional motocross racing in the Midwest, the Heartland MX Championship Series is the benchmark. The series spans six states, draws hundreds of riders per round, and visits some of the best-maintained private facilities in the region. Here is what you need to know heading into 2026.

What Is the Heartland MX Championship Series?

The Heartland series is a regional points championship that runs through Missouri, Kansas, Iowa, Nebraska, Oklahoma, and Illinois. The series is open to amateur riders from 50cc youth classes up through A and Open classes. Points accumulate across rounds, with a season championship decided at the final round.

The format follows AMA amateur rules, making it a natural stepping stone for riders aiming at Loretta Lynn's or other national amateur events. Many of the riders who place well at Loretta's from the Midwest have Heartland season points on their record.

Key Venues: Adrenaline Motorplex

Adrenaline Motorplex is one of the signature stops on the Heartland circuit and consistently ranks as one of the best-prepared tracks in the six-state region. The facility features a full-size main track with stadium-style berms, a well-lit spectator area, and pits with vendor access. When Heartland visits Adrenaline, expect gate counts in the upper hundreds for big classes.

The track surface at Adrenaline holds prep exceptionally well through multiple motos, which makes for fair racing throughout the day. This is a track where technique matters more than horsepower.

Key Venues: LSF MX Track

LSF MX Track represents the series' presence in the Kansas and Nebraska corridor. The facility is known for a longer, flow-oriented layout with elevation changes that separate it from flatter Midwest tracks. The sand base drains quickly after rain, which means the track often runs when other regional facilities cannot.

LSF also hosts practice days between Heartland rounds, making it a good facility to use for preparation leading into a race weekend.

How to Register for the Series

Registration for Heartland rounds follows a standard process: online pre-entry typically opens two to three weeks before each round. Walk-up registration is available at most rounds but incurs a higher gate fee. Class selection is based on AMA class rules — if you are unsure which class you qualify for, contact the series promoter directly before your first round.

A full season membership provides a discounted gate fee at each round and makes you eligible for the season championship. Day-of-race memberships are available for riders who only plan to attend select rounds.

Travel and Logistics

Because the series spans six states, some rounds will require overnight travel. Most Heartland venues have on-site or adjacent camping for trailers. Plan fuel for your tow vehicle — some of the Iowa and Nebraska venues are in rural areas where fuel stops can be 20-plus miles away from the track.

Motel options near most venues fill up fast on race weekends. Book accommodations as soon as the season schedule is announced, especially for rounds at popular facilities like Adrenaline Motorplex.

Classes and Competition Level

The Heartland series runs a full complement of classes that covers nearly every rider profile. Youth classes start at 50cc and step up through 65cc, 85cc, and schoolboy divisions. Adult classes run from Beginner through C, B, and A/Open. There are also Women's, Senior, and Vet classes at most rounds.

Competition level varies significantly by class. The A and Open classes at major Heartland rounds are legitimate regional elite competition. Beginner and C classes are accessible for newer racers with a season or two of riding behind them. If you are racing your first organized event, Beginner class at a Heartland round is a reasonable entry point.
