Best Motocross Tracks for Beginners in the Midwest (2026)

MWR Staff·

Starting out in motocross is exciting — but showing up at the wrong track for your skill level can be intimidating, or worse, dangerous. The Midwest has excellent facilities for new riders, but not all tracks are equal when it comes to beginner accessibility.

Here's what to look for and which tracks are genuinely beginner-friendly.

What Makes a Track Beginner-Friendly?

  • Separate beginner or novice track — ideally a smaller layout with no massive jumps
  • Peewee or kids track — if you're bringing young riders
  • Forgiving terrain — wide, open corners and tabletops rather than blind doubles
  • Welcoming atmosphere — staff who are helpful to new riders
  • Reasonable gate fees — you shouldn't have to spend $50 to find out you're not ready for a track

Tips for Your First Time at an MX Track

  1. Call ahead and explain it's your first time. Most track owners will tell you what to expect and whether their track is right for your skill level.
  2. Gear up completely. Helmet (DOT or Snell), goggles, chest protector, gloves, mx pants and jersey, mx boots. No exceptions.
  3. Start slow. You don't need to clear every jump on your first visit. Roll the face, land short, and build up.
  4. Watch the traffic pattern. MX tracks run one direction. Learn it before you pull onto the track.
  5. Check for kids tracks. Tracks with a dedicated peewee loop give younger riders their own space to learn without traffic pressure.

Youth Beginner Programs

Several tracks in Missouri and Kansas offer youth beginner coaching or structured ride days: - Roc Solid MX (Warsaw, MO) — technique workshops and family ride days - 4-State Moto Complex (Neosho, MO) — training schools year-round - Adrenaline Motorplex (Adrian, MO) — training camps offered
